巷では安楽はもう１３０ｋしかなげられなくなったようだ、という噂はきいていた。しかし去年でも制球は甘かったが、ときおり１５０ｋもなげていたはずだし、肩のケガも治ったとのことで、二軍で調整したはずなんだから戻っているだろうと。
しかし前に見た時よりも更に酷かった。ストレートは１３０台がやっと。ときおり勝負球のつもりでなげているので１４３。
かといって球速が遅くなったベテラン投手ほどの制球力とコントロールは持っていないのだ。安楽の球ではどれでも空振りはとれない。ファウルでカウントを稼ぐのがせいいっぱい。決め球もない。コースを突いてストレートとか変化球をなげるか、よくて打ち損じ。普通のバッターなら誰でもうてるだろう。これから余程コーナーを突くコントロールが上がれば別だが、いまのままでは球団に居られなく日は案外早く訪れるかもしれない。
球速は早ければよいわけではない。しかし球速の遅い人が一流になるためには、球速の速い人から比べて緩急時差での変化球、また、決め球に打てないスポットに確実に投げ個込める技術とメンタルが必要だ。つまり、日ハムのハンカチ齋藤が苦悩している「球の遅い投手の再生」に数年遅れて参加したようなものではないか。あれだけ上半身や下半身を大きく鍛え上げて、尚且つ球速が出せないとすれば、高校時代に異常な球数を投げた報いが今になって現れてきたといえるだろう。
