３７番　嶋は来期主力捕手でいられるか？

さて、嶋のことなのだが、様々なところで議論されていて、賛否両論といった印象を受ける。良く書いても悪く書いても嶋アンチや嶋ファンからお叱りのクレームが来るだろうなあ、という印象だ。
実際は入団当時の嶋は好ましく思っていた。大昔からの古臭い捕手のイメージ…デブ、動きが緩慢、鈍足、打撃は苦手…という選手ではなくスマートで溌剌といていたからだろうか。特に大学新卒に捕手をレギュラーでまかせるという事に新鮮さも感じていたのかもしれない。

始めの頃は、まったくヒットうてそうな気もしなかったけれど徐々に打つ方もよくなってきて３割打者にもなった。２０１３年日本一の時にも右打ちで勝利に貢献したこともあり、名実ともにNPBを代表する捕手として扱われてきたと思う。だって国際大会だと捕手ではまっさきに名前が挙がるもんね。

ただ、ここのところは何だか期待できないという気持ちが強い。まずめっきり打たなくなったということ。ずっとやっていたからには右打ち対策とかされているのかもしれないけれど２割そこそこじゃねえ。いちおうバントはそれなりに成功させているけど。一度３割打った事があるだけに「ほぼ打てない」というイメージが強くなってしまった感じ。西武の森もソフトバンクの甲斐も守りだけでなく打てる事も一軍で起用されている大きな理由なのだから、せめて.280くらいは打ってほしいもんである。

そしてリード面。具体的にはわからない。ただ若いピッチャーに関しては嶋に臆しているのか際どいコースへ応えることができない例が多いような。つまり、あまりよくない投手を細川のようにたくみなリードで引っ張って良い投球をさせるような技術はないように見えるんだよなあ。

また、以前はさほど盗塁阻止は不得意ではなかった方だったと思うのだけれど今年は盗塁企画をほとんど通していたかのように見えた。（阻止率は見てないけど）ピッチャーのクイックにも問題はあるだろうけど、アンダースロー送球って何なのだろうか？左バッターが邪魔になる事もあるけれど、けっこう頻繁にやってたし。少しでも強い送球をしたいなら上からだし、コントロール重視でアンダーなのかな？どれも楽々セーフだったし。３０過ぎたからって肩は急に衰えるものなんすかね？ファウルチップで休んでたから手に後遺症が残ってたのかも。
そういえばファウルで怪我をすることが多く、今年も去年も離脱するのが恒例。フルシーズン全試合出場を期待はできなくなっていると見るべきだろう。なので、第２捕手は出る機会も多くなりそうだし、第３捕手も必要と言えるのかもしれない。

ところで嶋に続く捕手は数人いる。伊志嶺は監督の信頼がまったく得られていないようで来期も一軍帯同は微妙な感じ。山下は経験のある若手だけどキャンプだけで別チームの投手全員と連携ができるかという問題があるかもです。足立はシーズン前半に何らかの首脳陣の怒りに触れて怪我でもないのに長くファームにいた。最後は仕方なく週に何試合か出してたけどその「怒りを買った」件が収まらないと来期もメイン捕手ではないような気もする。
というわけで来期も嶋がメイン捕手という既定路線は変わらないんだろうと思いますね。
